Hello Hiam Just a quick note to say we had a marvellous time in your house. We did lots of walking and absolutely loved all the villages. We couldn't believe all the fruit on the trees along the trails. Thanks again for a wonderful week. Kind RegardsJackie and John Cassidy, New Zealand 11-18 September 2009

A great week away in a comfortable apartment in a beautiful region of Spain. Lots of superb walking- Strongly recommend Charles Davis book and map - Walk! The Alpujarras.  We brought our own copy from home but noticed it is available in the information centre in Pampaneira. Ate out in each of Bubion's 3 main restaurants - Artesa, Estacion & Teide - all recommended though Teide is the least interesting.  Thanks to Hiam and to Ana for a very enjoyable holiday.Paul & Gill Mors, La Manga, Spain Sat 28 March-Sat 4 April 2009

Pascal & Anne Dewailly, Margaux & Claire. Vincennes (France) Août 2008

An excellent base for brilliant walking.  Weather fantastic!!  All the best. PS Orgiva a bit of a dump, but Lanjaron is worht a visit, esp alleys and little squares off main street.Jen & Steve Kirkbirde, Yorkshire Dales  England 6-13 October 07

Great place, been here before, had lots of plans, especially when our daughter came out to join us in the middle o four holiday, but unfortunately, due to illness, didn't do as much walking, eating & drinking tinto as hoped.  But..we did sucessfully negociate the walk from Bubion/Capileira/Pampaneira/Bubion that eluded us last year. (Red & Green routes combined, from 6 walks pack)Stewart, Carole & Clare Simpson, Aberdeen, Scotland Tues 14 Aug - Sat 1 Sept 2007

What a beautiful place and a lovely flat, the best view in town.  We'll be back.  Walks 1,3 and 4 were fine for a  6 1/2year old.  We leave our hearts here.  Lovely views. Deto be back again.  Beautifull place Crhis :-)Christina from Bethesda, North Wales. 30th June 2007

We had an excellent week here in Bubion, the apartment suited us very well and the location and the views are fantastic! Weather permitting, is what Hiam mailed to us and she was right too as we heard that people were snowed in over Christmas in some villages while we enjoyed sunshine and high temperatures through the week.  Last time we were here was 15 years ago and the walks and the scenery are still just as great.  The roads are better though and the village parking places much bigger, no doubt to accommodate the many 4WD's etcetera mostly driven by Spanish townspeople who drive out for the day.  Apparently mainly to drink beer on a village terrace.  Everyone to their taste, I suppose.  The new Estacion restaurant on calle Estacion has good value means and great "Valedo"(?) red wine.  Besides this valley, the Taha area around Pitres and further South offers some great walks too.  Thank you Hiam and Ana for your swift responses to our questions. PS We leave the Bubion town map and a packet of 6 short walks for future visitors.  These were graciously given to us by the lady at "Taller Telar" who makes (by hand) wonderful but also costly woollen blandets, rugs etcetera.  Worth a look, in any case.Paul Engelen & Bouhje Vander Ende (Zaandam, The Netherlands) December 30 - Jaunary 6th 2007

Han sido mas dias fantasticos, un paisaje increible, unos restaurantes estupendos.  Para recordar y volver.Christina Corredor 10-12-2.006

We spent our holiday in (Almanzar de Bubion) Finca La Suerte allmost 4 weeks.  This was a great time, we came in touch with mountain village life, learned about difficult contdition of "mountainlife", especially in the not so recent times, but also up to the present times.  We saw how the habitants deal with water, the treasure of this regions, witch sometimes floats borderless, but mostly is a very rare good.  It makes us wonder how the irrigation canals were be used, this seems to be a real  Maurish lektion from past times.  We made many excursions into the mountains and valleys, at least one expedition up to 3088m to the Pico del Tajo de los Matchos.  We had good weather conditions an wide views to the mediterranean sea and the other peaks surround.  It was a great moment to be up there.  We felt like 2 eagles, flighing through the highest peaks of the Sierra Nevada.  In the morning and evening hours we mostly had a seat on the balcony and felt at the top of a tower, watching nature, birds, moon and stars of the Poqueira Valley through the looking glas, discovering every moment new surprises. The wide range of the views, the feeling of independence and freedom touched our souls.  We didn't expect it, but we had a deep time-out and leaved our busy day-by-day working behind us.  Le agradecemos la acogida con la leche y las galletas y el nescafe.  Muchas gracias.  Nos gusta mucho aqui! La vivenda esta muy bien! La chmenea muy agradable! Falta nada! Adios!Petra & Lulz Godenschwager, Duseldorf, Germany 13.05 - 10.06-06

Great place to stay- wonderful views and walks.  We did most of that was already mentioned.  In Bubion we liked Trastienda de Bubion for eating and drinking- Sunny terrace for afternoon tea and friendly staff.  We would have appreciated a toaster and more blankets, otherwise the apartment is lovely!  Muchas Gracias!Jenny & Colin, Valencia, Espana

Thank you for your comments.  1- We have taken to switching on the electric radiators in the bedrooms before the guest' arrival.  For safety reasons, the gas heater we would rather not leave unattended, but it is very efficient and heats up the living area very fast.  Unfortunately, there is little that can be done about the wood, but if loaded in the boot of the car, it can be off loaded by the door.( I know it takes some getting used to driving through the narrow and sometimes steep streets of the village, but I do it in my Honda 4x4).  2- It is very difficult to anticipate the need of every person and mostly people don't mind supplementing the casserole dishes by using the cooking pots or serving directly on the plates.  3- Apart from the 2 blankets per bed we have now added a duvet.  4- We have added an electric kettle and a toaster, a hair dryer, a sattelite dish, a DVD and radio/CD players.  Hiam

We arrived at about 11pm.  It was very cold, Ana let us in.  After a long, twisty night of driving in a new car on the wrong side of the road, we went straight to the bar for a beer! The house was very cold, and we robbed the other beds of their bedding, in the middle of a chilly night.  Morning was simply glorious- unexpected views lit by a blush-pink sunrise and mist bemeath made a spectacular scene.  This house must command one the the best positions in the village.  The only faults are: 1- too little heat- and wood had to be transported from the supermarket- a back-breaking task.  2- Casserole dishes.  I would have bought one for the house but Bubion has no supply of cook-ware, as far as I know. 3- you would need more bedding, if both rooms had been in use. 4- a kettel(electric) and a toaster would be useful.  But apart from that the house is excellent and the little balcony is the icing on the cake.  We both agreed that we would like to return here, perhaps in the spring or learly summer.  Our walks included a tour of the hillside opposite, and up to the Budhist shrine, a circular tour to Pitres and a circular in the Taha, from Mecinilla.  The sun has shone every day.Shirley Harris & Terry Cooper, Shropshire, UK 16th - 23d December 2005

A great location and clean and spacious apartment (though don't recommend bringing anything larger than a hatchback to the door). Here for the walking and we certainly haven't been disappointed, and the weather (mainly hot and sunny but one cloudy morning and a brief thunderstorm) was ideal.... Cafe Europa serves excellent homemade cakes and freshly squeezed juices.  La Artesa restaurant on the main Bubion road was our favourite.Vanda, Kate & Helen, Manchester, England 14th - 18th Sept '05

We have come with a group of cyclists from Addiscombe (London) to do some road cycling.  Apart from the fact that we are situated at the top of an 800m climb, this is the perfect location! In case anyone reading this is interested here are our rides: Day1- Bubion-Pitres- Trevelez- Berchules- Cadiar- Orgiva- Bubion.  This was about 65 mile round trip with 2200m ascent (approx).  Fantastic-quiet roads, good views. Tough climb at end! Day2 - Bubion- Orgiva- Motril and back. 60 miles with 2000m ascent.  Another good ride but some tough climb at end.  Day3- Drove to Nerja.  Cycled Nerja, Torre del Mar- Comares and back.  Only my pedal fell off before the comares climg.  Good bike shop in Torre del Mar. Day4- Bubion-Orgiva-Lanjaron, Albunuelas & back (60 miles). Day5- Granada- Pico Veleta - the big climb!  Boring road but it had to be done.  Lots of ski traffic. Cold at top - take your gloves for the decent. day6- Drove to Granada- cycled through Dudar up the valley to La Peza.  Beautiful, beautiful scenery and miles of car free roads- more cyclists than cars.  So all in all lots of great riding but a bit too much time spent in the van going round hairpin bends.  The apartment was very nice.Sue, Kenilworth (age 32) Tamar, London (age 32) 25th March 2005
